Writing Wild: The More-Than-Human World
In this generative writing class, we will read examples and representations of the more-than-human world in fiction, folklore, poetry, creative non-fiction, mythology, children’s books and more. We will look at how other writers have approached nature and animals, literal and metaphorical, as a way to make space for other realities than ours, and challenge how we see ourselves and our environment. We’ll take inspiration from a variety of texts, artwork and artifacts, to discover and deepen our perception of the world around us. Each class will focus on in-class readings, writing exercises/prompts, and generating first drafts, with opportunities for writers to share excerpts of their own writing during class. Each writer will also be offered a one-on-one meeting with Nadja. This class is open to all genres.
